California born artist Loran Speck draws the inspiration for his
still life paintings from the realist artists of the Renaissance
such as Caravaggio, Rembrandt and Rubens. Indeed, many say his
artistic talents surpass the great Dutch Masters with his brilliant
use of light and color. With incredible detail, Speck creates
images that look as if you could reach into the painting and take
out the objects. Glistening water drops appear to actually be
there- causing some to want to wipe the water away!
Specks artistic flair extends to the museum quality frames that
encase his art as well. Gilded in 22 kt. gold leaf or metal leaf
and hand carved in his own framing and gilding studio, each frame
is in itself a work of art.
Speck has been honored with feature articles and covers in many
of todays major art magazines. Most notable are USArt (October
1989), American Artist (February 1994), Art of the West (January/February
1996) and Southwest Art (January 1987 & March 1998).
Loran Speck has been showing his art work in Carmel, California,
for over 25 years. The Loran Speck Gallery, located in the heart
of beautiful Carmel-by-the-Sea, features a variety of media by
the artist. Original oils, watercolor contés, charcoals and etchings
fill the walls of his renowned gallery. Also available is a grand
selection of framed limited edition Giclée prints, Photoprints,
and hand signed posters. Exceptional mirrors also adorn the walls
of his gallery, hand made at his Framing and Gilding studio.
Additionally, Mr. Speck participates in many events and exhibitions
with the Altermann and Morris Galleries in Dallas, Houston, Santa
Fe and Hilton Head Island. And, as of January 1998, Speck is very
pleased to announce the showing of his work in Galerie Les Merveilles,
St. Paul de Vence, France.
